Crash kills Franklin man walking in road, two-year-old also injured

CENTERVILLE - A Franklin man walking on La. 318 with two children was killed when struck by a car Monday night.

According to investigating troopers, shortly after 8 p.m. 39-year-old Aaron Burgess of Franklin was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala east on the US 90 Frontage Road.

Lester Redeaux, 40, of Franklin was walking in the road with the flow of traffic with two children, ages 2 and 11.

Burgess was approaching the pedestrians from behind and struck Redeaux and the 2-year-old.

Redeaux was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead by the emergency room physician.

The 2-year-old sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The 11-year-old was not injured. Burgess was uninjured as well.

Thes crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Law requires that all pedestrians walk on the far left side of the roadway against the flow of traffic. Pedestrians are also required to walk on the sidewalk if one is provided.
