NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana Creole Research Association will hold its eighth annual conference Oct. 19 to 21 at Delgado Community College.

Titled, “Creole Women Then and Now: Extraordinary Lives, Lasting Legacies,” the conference will feature exhibits, speakers and live music.

The Association helps preserve the history and culture of Creole people of Louisiana through research and education.

Located at 615 City Park Ave., Isaac Delgado Hall will house the LA Creole Art Exhibit & Project 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19. It is a collaboration with the Irma Thomas WISE Center for Women and features students’ and members’ artistic rendering of Creole women.

Conference registration is 8 a.m. Oct. 20 with sessions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Life Center (second floor of building 23). Cost is $45 for members, $55 for non-members and $12 for students with ID.

The program includes key note speaker Councilwoman Cynthia Hedge-Morrell, a dramatic performance of Alice Ruth Moore Dunbar Nelson by Dr. Ronald Dorris of Xavier University, an historical account of Josephine Decuir by Dr. Florence M. Jumonville of the University of New Orleans and a musical presentation by OperaCreole.

On Oct. 21, there will be a Jazz Brunch and Silent Auction in the LACE Grand Ballroom at 6978 Martin Drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring the Pinstripe Jazz Band. The brunch costs $45 and must be pre-paid by Oct. 14.
