Forty-four students completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program at Glencoe Charter School. The fifth graders, their parents, and faculty gathered recently in the school cafeteria for the graduation ceremony. The 10-week long DARE Program teaches students about the dangers of drug abuse and includes lessons on bullying and peer pressure. Graduates received certificates, pencils, stickers and other DARE memorabilia to celebrate their accomplishments. At the end of the program students were asked to write an essay on what they learned. Rebecca Furlow won the contest and read her essay at the ceremony. K’vontrey Caesar was chosen as runner-up. Bryant Boykin received the Sheriff’s Award for his outstanding enthusiasm and interest in the learning opportunities provided by DARE. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office manages the program in seven schools across the parish for approximately 500 students.
