BATON ROUGE (AP) — The state Department of Environmental Quality says cleanup of industrial waste at the closed Marine Shale Processors incinerator in Amelia is scheduled to begin in February.

The incinerator has been closed since 1996, but waste still sits in tanks and other containers at the site.

DEQ says the cleanup work is expected to last up to 100 days.

Remediation of the site has been delayed for several years pending the resolution of litigation between federal and state regulators and the company that operated the incinerator.
