Reknown geologist

BATON ROUGE – Services for internationally known geologist and LSU chaired professor Arnold Bouma are pending. He died Dec. 16 at age 79.

He was a former vice president of Gulf Oil Research and Development and was Charles T. McCord chaired professor at LSU for 17 years.

His “Bouma Sequence” development was a geological milestone of the 20th Century.

Survivors include his wife Lieneke and three sons.

Apollo engineer

COLLINS, Miss. – Services for Apollo engineer James Harvey, Jr. are pending. He died Dec. 14 at age 94.

After retiring from NASA, he owned Harvey’s Department Store in Marksville, La.

Survivors include four sons.

Former fire chief

BROUSSARD – Services for former fire chief Clarence Smith were Saturday. He died Dec. 15 at age 86.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Smith was chief for seven years and was an alderman for 12 years.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter.
