Long-time labor leader

BATON ROUGE – Services will be Friday for long-time state labor leader Victor Bussie. He died Sept. 4 at age 92.

Bussie was a force in Louisiana politics fora half century and was president of the state AFL-CIO from 1956 to 1997.

He was a Shreveport fireman before being elected to the labor post. He was re-elected annually after that.

Survivors include his wife Fran.



Retired Army, National Guard officer


ALEXANDRIA -- Services for former Cleco official and retired Lt. Col. Lemmie Gleason will be Wednesday. He died Sept. 4 at age 79.

Gleason was retired head of purchasing for Cleco and also retired from the U.S. Army and the La. National Guard.

He was a pilot involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis and a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Office.

Survivors a son and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Hixson Brothers.
