PINEVILLE – Services will be Wednesday for long-time coach and educator Elvin Tubre. H died Oct. 16 at age 88.
Tubre, who coached at Kaplan and Bolton High Schools, was a former recipient of the Southwest Louisiana Sportswriters Coach of the Year award (twice). In addition to coaching basketball and football, he taught biology, general science and American History.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the European Theater, World War II.

Avoyelles civic leader
MARKSVILLE -- Services were Saturday for civic leader Joseph D. Elder, Jr. He died Oct. 10 at age 65.
He was the 2008 Avoyellean of the Year and supported a number of parish and city projects.
Survivors include four children.
Long-time minister
ALEXANDRIA – Services were Sunday for Methodist minister Dr. John M. Lee, III. He died Oct. 13 at age 81.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and former Shreveport Fire Dept. chaplain.
Rev. Lee began his ministry as a student local pastor at Wesley Methodist Church in the Shreveport district from 1957-1963; He then served the Pine Grove Circuit in Shreveport District from 1963-1968; Marksville-Simmesport-Oak Grove Charge in the Alexandria District from 1968-1974; Amite-Independence Charge in the North Shore from 1974-1980; Senior Pastor at Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Church in the Alexandria District from 1980-1985; Senior Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Bossier City from 1985-1991; Senior Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Monroe from 1991-1995; He retired from full-time ministry In the Louisiana Annual Conference after more than forty years of service.
Survivors include his wife Jerry, a son and a daughter.
Former councilman, banker
WALKER -- Services were Sunday for former city councilman and banker John Bergeron. He died Oct. 11 at age 79.
He was a two-term council member former Livingston State Bank vice president.
Survivors include his wire Ruth, four sons and three daughters.
