Former Southern-Shrev. chancellor

SHREVEPORT – Services will be Saturday for former Southern University at Shreveport chancellor Leonard C. Barnes. He died Nov. 27 at age 89.

Barnes was named dean of the campus in 1969, a position which evolved into that of chancellor and held the post 20 years.

He was an All-American college running back and a veteran of World War II.

He was a former guidance counselor and high school coach as well as Southern-Shreveport director of student personnel.

Survivors include his wife Doretha.

Longtime director of nursing

BAYOU CHICOT – Services will be Thursday in Shreveport for director of nursing Victoria Naron. She died Nov. 28 at age 87.

She was a long-time resident of Shreveport before returning to her native home. She served as director of nursing at Schumpert and Brentwood Hospitals in Shreveport and at hospitals in Bunkie, Oakdale and Mansfield.

Survivors include three sons.

Arrangements are by Hillcrest, Shreveport.
