NSU All-American

NATCHITOCHES – Services for All-American basketball player and coach Dr. Charles ‘Red’ Thomas will be Tuesday. He died Jan. 22 at age 93.

Thomas was Northwestern State University’s first All-American basketball player and later became vice president of academic affairs at NSU.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and also coached basketball and football at Bastrop High and basketball at NSU.

He at one time was state supervisor for health and physical education in the La. Dept. of Education and was on the board of Exchange Bank.

Survivors include his wife Sadie and nine children.

Arrangements are by Blanchard-St. Denis.

Civil Service director

BATON ROUGE – Services for former Civil Service director Lee Eilers will be Tuesday. He died Jan. 18.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former City of Lafayette Civil Service director.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth, a son and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Educator

BATON ROUGE – Services are Monday for educator Lucille McDowell. She died Jan. 15 at age 86.

She taught at a number of schools, including LSU, and was a former state reading and English supervisor.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

School Board member

BATON ROUGE – Services will be Tuesday for School Board member Patrice Niquille. She died at age 67.

She was a former School Board member of the Year

Survivors include her husband Serge.
