Decorated policeman

LAFAYETTE – Services will be Thursday for decorated police officer Joel Grayson, II. He died in a boating accident on June 23 at age 28.

He was a member of the Lafayette Police Crime Suppression Unit and S.W.A.T. member. He was a recipient of the department’s Medal of Valor.

Survivors include his wife Mandy and his parents.

Arrangements are by Martin & Castille.

Shipbuilder

ABBEVILLE – Services for shipbuilder Lewis Faciane will be Wednesday. He died June 25 at age 90.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, European Theater. He was owner/president of Intracoastal City Dry Dock and Ship Building and was former chairman of the Vermilion Parish Harbor and Terminal Board and a past member of the Republican State Central Committee.

Survivors include his wife Annette, six sons and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Vincent.

WAFB GM

BATON ROUGE – Services for WAFB-TV founding president and general manager Thomas Gibbens will be Wednesday. He died June 24 at age 95.

Gibbens helped found WAFB radio station in 1948, then became the TV station’s general manager when it went on the air. The station was the first in Baton Rouge.

He was a former Broadcaster of the Year and was on the board of several companies and organizations, including Guaranty Corp. and Lamar Corp.

Survivors include three daughters.
