Navy recovery crewman

RUSTON – Services for helicopter recovery crewman Joseph Fitzmorris, U.S. Navy, will be Friday. He died at age 31 during a downed aircraft recover operation near Muscat, Oman.

He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and veteran of several deployments to the Persian Gulf with Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 15.

Survivors include his wife Jacquie.

Arrangements are by Kilpatrick.

Former DNR secretary

NEW IBERIA – Services will be Saturday for attorney state secretary of natural resources Jack Caldwell. He died July 31 at age 86.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and also a veteran of the Korean War. He practiced law in Franklin and Lafayette and was DNR secretary under Gov. Mike Foster. During his tenure, the Atchafalaya Basin Program was established. He also was adjunct professor at LSU Law Center.

Survivors include several children.

Arrangements are by David.

Methodist minister

BATON ROUGE – Services for retired Methodist minister the Rev. Fred Shirley will be Saturday. He died at age 88.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II’s Pacific theater and was a Methodist minister for more than 40 years, serving churches in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Opelousas as well as in his native Alabama.

Survivors include a son.
