LAFAYETTE – Services for former ULL professor of English Dr. Barbara Cicardo will be Friday. She died Sept. 13 at age 76.
She was also former director of academic planning and faulty development at ULL and coordinator of the Canadian Studies Program. She was a member of the Board of Regents Task Force on General Education and an elected higher education member of the State Health Insurance Board of the Office of Group Benefits for many years.
Survivors include a sister.

Retired coach, Southern U. Hall of Fame member
BATON ROUGE – Services Coach Bernard Lucas will be Wednesday. He died Sept. 14 at age 83.
He was former head football and baseball coach at New Roads High and athletic director at Chaneyville High for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Southern University Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also a facility director for Baton Rouge Recreation and Parks Commission.
Survivors include his wife Hilda and two step-children.

Former principal, librarian
EVERGREEN – Services for former principal and librarian Marvin Tanner will be Friday. He died Sept. 13 at age 95.
He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was responsible for creation of libraries in the various camps of Angola State Penitentiary. He was librarian at Bunkie High for 10 years and principal of Evergreen Elementary for 18 years.
Survivors include a son and five daughters.

Decorated A10 pilot
DERIDDER – Services for decorated aviator Lt. Col. (Retired) Gary “ Mad Dog” Ducote will be Saturday. He died Sept. 14 at age 54.
He flew 35 combat missions in Desert Storm as an A10 Warthog pilot. He was owner of Shisei Dojo and a college instructor for Central Texas at Fort Polk.
Survivors include his wife Stephanie and a daughter.
