NEW ORLEANS – Services for businessman and civic leader Warren Deckert will be Friday. He died Sept. 29 at age 87.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a former board member of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association, a partner in Howard Weil Labouisse Friedrichs, CFO of Wiener Corp. and owner of a real estate and investment firm.

He was a former board member of Tulane University, president of Dominican College and chairman of the founding board of Holy Cross High and on the advisory board of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Survivors include his wife Andre’ and three children.

Arrangements are by Lakelawn, Metairie.

Decorated aviator

FARMERVILLE – Services for decorated retired US Army aviator Lt. Col. Richard Blake, Jr.will be Thursday. He died Sept. 30 at age 88.

He was a Western Pacific theater veteran of World War II, where he was assigned to a P-61 “Black Widow” Night Fighter Squadron. He held five Bronze Stars. During his military service he logged more than 20,000 hours of flying time in fixed wing and helicopter aircraft and was designated a Master Army Aviator. After retirement he owned and operated a flight school and aircraft dealership He was a long-time resident of Shreveport.

Survivors include four sons.

Arrangements are by Mulhearn.

USDA chemist

NEW ORLEANS – Services for plant expert and chemist Dr. Timothy Calamari, Jr. will be Saturday. He died Oct. 1 at age 75.

He worked for the US Dept. of Agriculture for more than 40 years. He was past president of the New Orleans Rose Society and the Greater New Orleans Bromeliad Society and active in other floral organizations.

Survivors include two children.

Arrangements are by Lakelawn, Metairie.
