SHREVEPORT – Services for retired lieutenant colonel, educator and School Board official Murphy Nash, Jr. will be Monday. He died Oct. 3 at age 80.
He was a Korean War veteran and retired from the US Army Reserves. He was a former middle school and elementary school principal and former director of elementary education for the Caddo Parish school system. He was a six-year member of the Southern University System Board or Supervisors and former commissioner of the Red River Waterway.
Survivors include two daughters.
Arrangements are by Winnfield.
Disability expert, 30-year School Board member
COUSHATTA – Services for former state director of of the Social Security Disability Program John McElwee, Sr. will be Wednesday. He died Oct. 5 at age 75.
He was director of the program for 10 years and was elected president of the National Association of Disability Examiners. He was a Red River Parish School Board member for 30 years and also served as president of the Louisiana School Board Association. He was personnel director of Sunbeam Corp. for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife Kay, a son and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Rockett.
Anesthesiologist
METAIRIE – Services for anesthesiologist Dr. Joseph Nodurft will be Thursday. He died Oct. 3 at age 89.
He served with a MASH unit during the Korean War and started several anesthesiology departments during his career in West Virginia, Ohio, Mississippi and at West Jefferson Hospital in Louisiana.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Lakelawn.
Decorated aviator, retired banker
WEST MONROE – Services for decorated aviator and retired banker James Benton will be Tuesday. He died Oct. 5 at age 96.
He flew 38 missions as a B-26 bombardier in the European theater of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. He was a retired vice president of Ouachita National Bank.
Survivors include two daughters.
Arrangements are by Kilpatrick.
Former city councilman
FARMERVILLE – Services were Oct. 4 for former city councilman Dewitt Crow. He died Oct. 2 at age 90.
He was a city council member for eight yeas and owned Crows Furniture for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife Billie, two sons and a daughter.
Arrangements were by Kilpatrick.
