Former clerk of court

NEW IBERIA – Services for retired Clerk of Court Orres LeBlanc were Saturday. He died Oct. 11 at age 84.

He worked in the Iberia Parish Clerk of Court’s office as a deputy or as clerk for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife Janice and four daughters.

Arrangements were by Pellerin.

Black business leader

BATON ROUGE – Services for businessman and civic leader Horatio Thompson are pending. He died Oct. 20 at age 98.

He was believed to have been the city’s first black millionaire. His business interests include drug stores, taxi cabs, gasoline stations, electrical appliances and real estate.

Survivors include two daughters

Baptist pastor

LAFAYETTE – Services long-time Southern Baptist pastor Rev. George Richardson, Jr. are Monday. He died Oct. 19 at age 88.

He was pastor at a number of Louisiana churches, including Northside in Lafayette and 1st Baptist in Kaplan, as well as churches in New Orleans, Shreveport and Plain Dealing. He was also associate pastor at 1st Baptist, Lafayette.

Survivors include his wife Rosalie and three children.

Arrangements are by Delhomme.

Former WMI comptroller

LAFAYETTE – Services for businesswoman Deborah Moret will be Tuesday. She died Oct. 19 at age 62.

She was co-founder of Financial Strategies Group and for 20 years was a comptroller for Waste Management, working in slots both in the U.S. and abroad. She was treasurer of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and on the board of its Women’s League.

Survivors include her husband Vernon.

Arrangements are by Delhomme.

Methodist minister, official

RUSTON – Services were Sunday for long-tme Louisiana Methodist minister and official Rev. Jimmie Pyles. He died Oct. 17 at age 77.

He was a minister for 60 years, serving at 10 United Methodist Conference churches and as Ruston District Superintendent. He was general secretary of the World United Christian Ashram and on the executive committee of the World United Methodist Council on Evangelism and on the board of United Methodist Childrens Home in Ruston.

Survivors include his wife Dessie and a son.

Arrangements were by Edmonds.

Former Girl Scouts leader

NEW ORLEANS – Services for former Girls Scouts leader Margaret Stuart Dickey Davies will be Wednesday. She died Oct. 19 at age 91.

Prior to moving to New Orleans, she was the first woman elected to the Texarkana, Ark. city council and was on the boards of the Two States Council of Girl Scouts and the Chamber of Commerce. She founded a non-profit which provided for landscaping and beautification in that city and opened a recycling center.

Survivors include two daughters.

Long-time lawyer

NEW ORLEANS – Services for long-time lawyer Thomas “Whit” Thorne are Monday. He died Oct. 16 at age 82.

He practiced law for almost 60 years, first with Phelps Dunbar and then with Lemie & Kelleher. He was an authority in longshoremen and Harbor Works Act cases.

Survivors include his wife Glenda, a son and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Lakelawn, Metairie.
