Retired nursing official

MONROE – Services for retired nurse and state nursing official JoAnn Scalia will be Thursday. She died Nov. 12 at age 82.

She was head nurse of the St. Francis Hospital orthopedic and neurological floor for 15 years and served several terms on the State Board of Nurses.

Survivors include her husband Roy, two sons and three daughters.

Arrangements are by Mulhearn.

Civil engineer, lawyer

METAIRIE – Services for retired civil engineer and lawyer Marion "Manzie" Welborn will be Saturday. She died Nov. 10 at age 78.

She grew up in Monroe and was one of the first female graduates of the Vanderbilt University Engineering School. She designed many of the bridges that cross Bayou St. John. She earned her law degree at Loyola.

Survivors include a son and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Lake Lawn.
