For Chad Hebert that lesson could have been fatal.
Hebert’s son, Gavin, 13, shot a 10-point buck and Hebert, unarmed, tracked the deer into a thicket.
The deer, fatally wounded, nevertheless had the strength to charge Hebert and stuck him just below the knee with an antler.
Hebert told a Lake Charles television report he held on to the deer’s antlers trying to break its neck, all the while thinking the deer might kill him.
Gavin helped get the deer off his dad and it wobbled off, collapsed and died.
Hebert was in the hospital two days recovering.
Now he’s wiser, vowing to never track a wounded deer unarmed.
