HAMMOND – State Police haved charged a man operating a guided missile on Interstate 12 with seventh-offense DWI.

Troopers responded to a number of calls Monday afternoon about a pickup truck driving erratically on the interstate. As troopers approached the truck, which was weaving from lane to lane, the driver accelerated away and attempted to cross into the west-bound lanes through a median crossover at the Tangipahoa/St. Tammany Parish line.

The truck then drove east-bound in the west-boudn lanes before troopers successfully used a tire deflation device, forcing the truck to go into a ditch near the La. 1085 overpass.

The driver, Donald Murphy, Jr., 24, of Hammond was charged with 7th offense DWI, reckless operation, aggravated flight, driving on suspension and refusal of a chemical test.
