A Berwick man was arrested for drunk driving after test results revealed he was high when he crashed his vehicle in November.

Peter Roberts, 36, of Pharr Street was arrested at 10:33 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for driving while intoxicated and careless operation with a crash.

A Nov. 23 accident on La. 182 caused Roberts to be drug-screened. When the results came back, the warrant was issued for his arrest, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.

Roberts remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.

Elsewhere, Ignacio Urias Acosta, 52, of South Railroad Avenue in Morgan City was arrested Tuesday at 5:53 p.m. for failure to signal, open alcoholic container and possession of cocaine.

St. Mary Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force agents were patrolling the Morgan City area when they conducted a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle. During the investigation, an agent observed an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle as well as cocaine in Acosta’s possession, Sheriff Mark Hebert said.

Acosta was booked into the parish jail where he remained this morning with no bond set.

Jason P. Gaudet, 25, of Vernon Street in Thibodaux was arrested Tuesday at 1:31 p.m. for two counts of theft and two counts of forgery.

The arrest stems from an investigation into the theft and cashing of two checks. Gaudet was developed as a suspect and brought in for questioning, Hebert said.

Afterward, he was arrested and booked into the parish jail where he remained this morning with no bond set.
