Curmet Landry of Kaplan, owner of Landry’s Guide Servicen, was charged with conducting an illegal commercial duck hunt. The charges stemmed from a three-year undercover sting operation conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services.
Landry was ordered in federal court to pay a $5,000 fine and serve five years probation, with a special condition that prevents him for hunting during his probation time. Landry pleaded guilty in August 2011 for knowingly conducting an illegal duck hunt.
He admitted in open court that during the 2006 special teal season, he assisted his guide service clients in illegal duck hunts during which undercover federal agents, who were posing as his clients, to kill more than the daily limit of teal. He further directed the agents to kill five wood ducks, which were abandoned in the field because the season for wood ducks was closed.
