BATON ROUGE – Former Gov. Edwin Edwards is now out from under the federal corrections system thumb.

U.S. Dist. Judge Brian Jackson on Wednesday approved terminating Edwards’ court supervision.

He was released from federal prison 18 months ago with a three-year supervision condition. He served eight years in prison and six months of home detention for a racketeering, extortiona nd conspiracy conviction.

Neither federal prosecutors nor probation officials objected to the request by Edwards, 85, to end the supervision early.

Edwards and his wife Trina, 34, are scheduled to be in a reality TV show about their lives debuting later this month on A&E Network.
