VILLE PLATTE -- The Evangeline Parish School Board is seeking a couple of months to prepare a response to a $1.6 million invoice for legal fees.

Marion Overton White of Opelousas has submitted that bill to federal district court for his work in the decades-long parish desegregation case now winding toward conclusion.

Last year, White billed almost $10 million for his work in the adjacent St. Landry Parish desegregation case, one which also consumed almost 50 years.

That billing was eventually settled at $800,000, with the first payment made in December and others to follow.
