FSHS Lady Hornets notch first win

Franklin’s Lady Hornets notched their first win of the season with a 27-12 victory over the Jeanerette Lady Tigers Tuesday in an abbreviated contest at the FSHS Girls Softball Complex.

Franklin (1-5) rode the pitching of Ashalah Cross along with timely clutch hitting of Karson Grogan to claim its first win of the season.

Franklin struck for 10 runs in the bottom half of the first inning, eight runs in the bottom of the second frame and nine more runs in the third frame.

Cross earned the mound win, working three frames, fanning three batters.

Grogan led the Lady Hornets in hitting with a homer and a double while D’Onna Merriman, Bria Stewart, JaCourtlyn Hamilton and Cross all hit safely in the contest.

Franklin will travel to face the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack on today at 4 p.m. at the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack Softball Field.
