ABBEVILLE – A man whose four-year-old child was not in a car seat when killed in an accident in which the father was the driver will serve five years in prison.

Bryan Adams was sentenced after pleading guilty to negligent homicide which has a maximum five-year penalty.

Three years ago, he was charged with vehicular homicide which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison. He pleaded not guilty.

Before his trial began, he pleaded to the amended charge.

Though marijuana was found in Adams’ blood stream following the accident, the state could not prove when he smoked it.
