At Wednesday’s monthly meeting of the board of St. Mary Parish 911 Communications District, updates were made on the application for federal grants for fire department communication equipment.
The fire departments of the parish are collectively applying for a grant for radio equipment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The deadline for the grant is June 30.
Director Charlette Angeron told the board that all fire departments have responded since the last board meeting, when only the Cypremort Point fire department had yet to submit application materials.
Chief Jody Pillaro of the Centerville Fire Department is spearheading the grant application, which must come from one source even though it is for all departments in the parish, according to Angeron.
Angeron also spoke of bee infestation in the office on David Drive.
“I had to leave work one day because they were coming into my office,” she said, adding that “someone came in and got stung.”
