Raven Huff, 4, and her brother Rodney Huff, 3, of Patterson rode the rides at the Patterson Community Fair late on Friday afternoon. The four-day event during the past weekend was the first of what is planned to be an annual event. This year’s fair was held on the Patterson Junior High School grounds with bands and food booths.
“It was great,” Carl Butler of the City of Patterson said. “The mayor, along with the police chief, wanted to come up with something where we could give back to the community.”
Butler’s position as city liaison had him arranging the entertainment at the fair and traveling to promote it.
“In the last three months, we’ve been putting together this fair. It’s the first annual Patterson Community Fair. We used to have a fair years ago, the old St. Joseph fair, but we never had a fair of this magnitude.”
Butler said that Mayor Rodney Grogan “wanted to have between 12 and 18 rides. It’s a part of keeping the kids off the street and giving them something to do.”
