OAKDALE – Former City Clerk of Court Christy Stapleton has pleaded guilty to theft and received a suspended 10-year sentence with restitution.

Stapleton will have to repay about $82,000 stolen from Oakdale City Court fund as well as about $2,900 expense associated with investigation of the case.

Stapleton agreed to a lump sum payment of $55,000 and $500 monthly payments until the balance is retired.

She has paid $25,000 and has until May 15 to pay the remaining $30,000 of the lump sum.

Stapleton's crime was uncovered in a June 2001 audit report.

She was dismissed by the city after admitting to taking $1,546 from a cash drawer for her own use.

The report also said court employees were directed to pay her personal expenses with court funds.
