Former St. Martin Parish sheriff’s deputy and Berwick fire chief Michael Touchet pleaded guilty July 9 to one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

He received a suspended sentence of five years at hard labor, five years of supervised probation and a $1,000 fine. He also must register as a sex offender, according to the St. Mary Parish Clerk of Court’s office.

Touchet, 47, of Bayou Vista was arrested Feb. 28 for 10 counts of indecent behavior with a 13-year-old Berwick girl.

The bill of information from the case states that between Dec. 18, 2011, and Jan. 9 he transmitted “an electronic textual communication or an electronic visual communication depicting lewd or lascivious conduct, text or images to any person reasonably believed to be under the age of 17, namely (redacted) date of birth Feb. 18, 1998, and who is reasonably believed to be at least two years younger than the offender.”
