The perjury charge was brought by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office after the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s office recused itself from the case.
Assistant DAs Chester Cedars and Kim Kidd are both potential witnesses in the perjury case since they were in court when Calais allegedly lied on the stand in an armed robbery pretrial hearing.
As lead investigator in the armed robbery case, Calais testified that the victim accidentally witnessed the suspect being questioned by police just prior to picking him out in a photographic lineup.
But Kazi Rahman, the clerk at Russell’s Food Mart when it was robbed Sept. 22, said that Calais had in fact driven him to the police station and set him up to view the interrogation of the suspect via closed-circuit TV.
Calais, 34, was released on $10,000 bond.
