Senior Leadership Team members presented the accomplishments in the five pillar areas of people, service, quality, finance and growth.
Human Resources Director Elmo Vinas noted that in the people category, the hospital scored in the 99th percentile of 250 hospitals in the employee engagement survey; hosted staff town hall meetings with 81 percent participation; experienced an 8.1 percent employee turnover; hired 36 new employees; and renegotiated the medical benefit plan with no new out of pocket expenses for employees.
Chief Nursing Officer Jennifer Wise noted that in service the hospital received an honorable mention award for improvements in providing patient discharge instructions and the most achieved Excellence in Patient Care award in the pain composite category; increased the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems overall rating to 76.64 percent and ranked in the 95th percentile in hospital quietness, 97th in communications with doctors and 91st in communication with nurses; increased inpatient satisfaction from 78 percent to 85 percent and emergency department satisfaction from 76 percent to 82 percent; and sponsored and participated in the monthly clean-up day in Franklin.
Lori Leonard, director of Quality and Patient Safety, noted that in quality the hospital reduced patient falls by 70 percent; improved HCAHP core measures from 91 to 98 percent; reduced healthcare acquired conditions to less than half of 1 percent; completed the second year with Ochsner’s telestroke program; and continues to participate in the statewide initiative to eliminate non-medically indicated infant deliveries before 39 weeks.
Chief Financial Officer Ron Bailey reported that the hospital’s year-to-date bottom line is at just over $1.1 million as compared to $285,508 in budget projections; some $921,307 in net physician upper limit funds have been received as well as $294,454 from the Medicaid electronic health record incentive program; early principle payments totaling $1.2 million were made on the 2010 revenue bonds; cash on hand days was improved from 118 to 140 days; and $684,278 was spent on capital improvements.
In growth, Marlo Tibbs reported the establishment of the hospital’s foundation fund in conjunction with Community Foundation of Acadiana; the hiring of Dr. Kenya Whitney as medical director of the emergency department; the opening of a second operating room suite; the expansion of orthopedic surgeon Dr. John Osborne’s practice from 1 to 5 days per week; increased coverage of MRI services from 1 to 5 days a week; and continuation of construction of the new medical office building.
Chief Executive Officer Parker Templeton said, “2012 was truly a remarkable year.”
