MORGAN CITY - The Franklin 12-year-old All-Stars improved to a perfect 2-0 record Sunday in the 2012 Dixie Youth Baseball Six-Team Double Elimination Tournament here at Complex Park.

Franklin opened with a 7-6 victory over Morgan City on Friday before defeating Thibodaux 14-4 on Sunday.

Franklin returns to action tonight at 8 in semifinal action versus Morgan City.

FRANKLIN 14, THIBODAUX 4

Franklin pitchers Skyler Fitch and Brian Sonnier combined to hurl the Franklin All-Stars to a 14-4 victory over the Thibodaux All-Stars in an abbreviated contest.

Fitch was the winning pitcher, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing only three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Reliever Brian Sonnier worked the fourth inning, earning the save.

Sonnier helped spark Franklin with his second homer of the tournament, belting one of nine hits Franklin pounded out on the night. Franklin’s Brock Broussard and Jack Vaccarella helped power Franklin by going 2 for 2 in Sunday’s action.

Franklin struck for six runs in the first frame, four more in the second while also scoring three insurance runs in the third inning.

Franklin toppled Thibodaux by a final of 14-4 after four innings when the 10-run rule went into affect.

FRANKLIN 7, MORGAN CITY 6

Right-hander Josh Frost tossed a gem on Friday, leading the Franklin All-Stars to a 7-6 win over the Morgan City All-Stars in the 2012 Dixie Youth District Tournament here at Complex Park.

Frost collected 10 strikeouts while surrendering only four hits with five walks over 5 and 2/3 innings.

Frost stood tall on the mound, mowing down opposing hitters in order before giving the closing job to Franklin closer Peyton Trahan, who enticed a ground out to Chase Mensman to hand Franklin the nail-biting 7-6 victory.

In the first inning, Franklin’s Brian Sonnier smacked a two-run homer, giving Franklin a 2-0 lead. Sonnier ripped his two-run round-tripper, delivering Chase Mensman from second base while sending Franklin to the 2-0 advantage.

Franklin added three more runs in the second with clutch singles from Kade Daigle and Brock Broussard.

Noah Judice’s timely hit highlighted Franklin’s 2-run output in the fourth frame as the Franklin All-Stars held on for the 7-6 victory.

Franklin faces Morgan City tonight with the possibility of earning a berth in the regional tournament on the line.

In tonight’s opener, St. Mary Central will face off against Thibodaux at 6. Franklin will battle Morgan City in the nightcap at 8.
