A Franklin man was killed and a toddler injured while walking on the U.S. 90 frontage road Monday night near Centerville.

Lester Redeaux, 40, and a 2-year-old boy were hit by a 2003 Chevrolet Impala being driven by Aaron Burgess, 39, of Franklin, at about 8:15 p.m., according to reports from State Police Troop I. An 11-year-old girl also with Redeaux was not hit. The report indicates that all three were walking east with the flow of traffic and the Burgess vehicle approached the pedestrians from behind.

Redeaux was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead by an emergency room physician. The 2-year-old was treated for moderate injuries at a local hospital and released.

The accident remains under investigation.

State police reminds pedestrians that the law requires them to walk on the far left side of the roadway against the flow of traffic. Pedestrians are also required to walk on the sidewalk if one is provided.
