St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Chantel D. Ruffin, 23, of North Bayou Black Drive in Gibson, was arrested at 9:57 p.m. Tuesday for possession of schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a CDS in the presence of a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

While patrolling the Amelia area, a deputy observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal and conducted a traffic stop on Joseph Street. Upon coming into contact with the driver, the deputy noticed the strong odor of burning marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

The deputy received consent to search Ruffin’s vehicle, purse, and personal belongings, the report stated. During the search, the deputy located multiple bags of marijuana as well as marijuana hidden in a soda can and in a fast food wrapper. Other items located during the search included clear plastic bags, grinders, a digital scale, a firearm, and more than $1,000 in cash, the report stated. A minor was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop. The child was placed in the care of a guardian. Ruffin was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.

—A juvenile male, 16, was arrested at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday at Patterson High School for possession of Schedule II with intent to distribute (Vyvanse) and violation of controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone). A deputy responded to a complaint of drug activity at the school. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from school administrators that the juvenile sold medication to other students that had originally been prescribed to him. The teenager was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.

—Joseph Wade, 36, of Village Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for second degree battery. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a vehicle with no license plate light speeding on Grace Street and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Wade, and during the investigation learned of the warrant for his arrest. Wade was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
