And it has grown exponentially.
It’s set for Saturday on the grounds of Hanson Memorial High School, and organizer Keith Comeaux said 22 cooking teams have signed up so far.
Some of those will be cooking more than one item, Comeaux noted. Entries can be gumbo, seafood gumbo or jambalaya. That accounts for some 27 or so thus far.
With excellent weather expected, Comeaux said a lineup of music includes the 5 O’Clock Shadow Band and the group consisting of Mark Robicheaux, Bugga Curry, Rick Lorenzo and Chase Landry.
Competition cooking starts at 6 a.m., and the events opens to the public at 10 a.m. running until 4 p.m.
There will be a silent auction at 10 a.m. with about 50 items up for bid, ranging from Saints tickets to a 2-day stay in Grand Isle.
Comeaux said Games 2U will be bringing in laser tag, a giant hamster ball and a trailer of video games plus more.
There’ll be arts and crafts booths, with many local artists, on the grounds as well.
A one mile Fun Run is set for 9 a.m., and there’s also a cake walk, horseshoe pitching tournament and carnival games.
Comeaux said food from the cooking will be on sale about 11 a.m. and judging will be at 11: 30 a.m.
Entries are still being accepted for all events, Comeaux said. Call Hanson High School at 828-3487 for more information.
