HOOPS: Eagles sweep Patterson in Matchbox doubleheader

The Central Catholic boys basketball team beat St. Mary Parish rival Patterson on Friday, 57-42, at the Matchbox.

Dontrell Brown led the Eagles with 28 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals; Lloyd Grogan had 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and three blocks; Josh Singleton added five and five assists; Tyler Hoffpauir added three points and five rebounds; and Lamar Grogan snagged seven rebounds.

Central Catholic (14-3) will start District 7-1A play at the Matchbox against Ascension Episcopal (11-7) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Panthers fall on the road

The Berwick boys basketball team continued District 9-3A play on Friday with a 64-28 loss to Kaplan.

The Panthers trailed by six points at halftime before the Pirates pulled away in the second half.

Nick Canty led the Panthers with 10 points, Palmer Cox and Devin Tabor added six points each, Brandon Adams had four points, and Joe Francois and Chaz Russo added one point each.

Berwick (1-18, 0-4) will continue district play on Tuesday in Abbeville.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Eagles cruise to victory

The Central Catholic girls basketball team beat Patterson, 68-19, on Friday at the Matchbox.

Randi Brown led CCHS with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and six steals; Megan Landry had 12 points, nine rebounds, an assist and a steal; Meo Knight had 10 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals; and Geralyn Garrett led the team with 14 rebounds with nine points and four steals.

Three BHS players score in double digits

The Berwick girls basketball team endured a tough 55-42 loss to Kaplan on Friday to drop to 0-2 in District 9-3A.

Amber Girard had a team-high 16 points, Abigail Ohlin had 14, and Khadijah Johnson had 10.

The Lady Panthers (2-13, 0-2) will travel to face Abbeville on Tuesday.
