HOOPS: Tigers win Tourney of the Teche

Morgan City’s boys basketball team went undefeated in three games at the Tourney of the Teche in Centerville this past weekend.

The Tigers beat Franklin, Loreauville and Centerville to take the tournament title, which was played in a round-robin format.

Against Loreauville on Friday, the Tigers faced their toughest opponent of the tournament, winning 55-42.

Tyrin Watts had a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds; Jaylen Jones had 12 points; Jalen Johnson had 11 points; and Derrick Walker and Aquinndus Humphrey added three points each.

Morgan City wrapped up tournament play on Saturday against the hosts, Centerville.

The Tigers had little trouble, leading 37-8 at halftime, en route to a 77-24 win.

Watts notched another double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds; Johnson had 12 points; Jones had 11; Walker added seven; and Watkins, Humphrey and Carl Singleton had six points each.

The Tigers (4-2) will host Franklin (2-4) today at 7 p.m. and Plaquemines (7-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Busy night of hoops on tap

Morgan City’s girls (2-2) will travel to Patterson (2-4) for a 6 p.m. tip-off against the Lumberjills.

Central Catholic’s boys (2-1) and girls (5-0) will take on Berwick at the Matchbox.

The Lady Panthers (1-5) and Panthers (0-8) will be in for a tough night against the highly touted Eagles’ squads.

Patterson’s boys (3-0) will have tonight off but they travel to Jeanerette (2-4) on Wednesday.
