The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team continued its unbeaten start to the season with a tournament title at the Panther Invitational held in Berwick this past weekend.

In Saturday’s championship game, the Lady Eagles stormed past Morgan City 48-11 to take the title and improve to 5-0 on the young season.

Randi Brown led CCHS with 13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and six steals.

Meo Knight had nine points, 11 rebounds, four assists, seven steals and a block; Brieanna Hill had six points, five rebounds, two steals and a block; and Geralyn Garrett had six points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal.

The Lady Eagles opened the tournament with a dominant win over Terrebonne and moved on to beat Patterson, 59-18, in Friday’s semifinals.

Brown, Hill and Knight all scored in double digits against the Lumberjills.

Brown had 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, seven steals and two blocks; Hill had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks; and Knight had 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and four blocks.

Garrett added eight, Megan Landry had five, and Maria Templet, Courtney McGuire, Karley Guidry, Abbie Bergeron and Caroline Byrne had two points each.

The Lady Eagles will host Berwick on Tuesday at the Matchbox before heading to Houma this weekend for the Vandebilt Catholic tournament.

Lady Panthers down Sarah Reed in tournament play

The Berwick girls’ basketball team had mixed results in its tournament this past weekend winning once and losing twice in the Panther Invitational.

The Lady Panthers opened the tournament with a 38-16 win over Sarah Reed on Friday.

Amber Girard led the team with 10 points and Alaina Morella had five points.

Berwick moved on to face Patterson and came up short 46-39 to their district rival.

Girard had 21 points and Abigail Ohlin had 13 points.

The Lady Panthers last game of the tournament was against Morgan City, with the Lady Tigers dealing BHS a 50-31 loss.

Girard had eight points and Blake Orgeron had four points.

Morgan City moved on to the finals and lost to CCHS.

Berwick will head across the Atchafalaya to face CCHS on Tuesday, while MCHS travels to Patterson to face the Lumberjills.
