Head Start awareness month observed in Oct.

In observance of Head Start Awareness Month, the St. Mary and Vermilion Head Start program will present Family Celebration Week “Celebrating Diversity in Head Start,” Oct. 10-14.

Menus for the week will feature food from different cultures and Head Start classroom themes will center on cultural awareness.

The following activities will take place:

—Monday, Oct. 10, “Muffins for Moms.” All moms are encouraged to visit the center for muffins and juice and volunteer in the centers.

—Tuesday, Oct. 11, “Community Awareness Day.” There will be a Community Fair with crime prevention tips, health screenings, job opportunities and housing at the St. Mary CAA Central Office on Barrow Street in Franklin.

—Wednesday, Oct. 12, “Donuts for Dads.” All fathers and father figures are encouraged to volunteer in the Head Start centers.

—Thursday, Oct. 13, Head Start Awareness Day. Community Fair at Vermilion Parish Community Action in Abbeville. All centers are asked to invite local public officials to visit their local Head Start Center and read a story to their children.

—Friday, Oct. 14, “Cultural Awareness Day.” Head Start centers are asked to promote a culture and encourage children to dress in that particular culture for that day.

Goals for the week are to promote Head Start Awareness throughout the communities and collectively reflect 3,000 volunteer hours for the week.
