Health care worker charged with simple battery

Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Glenn Blanco reported the following arrests:

—Travis Hayes, 34, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:16 a.m. Monday and charged on warrants for failure to appear for simple battery, warrant on accessory after-the-fact to illegal use of dangerous weapon, warrant on accessory after-the-fact to aggravated criminal damage to property.

Hayes was located at the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center in Marksville and arrested. Warrants stem from an incident that occurred in March where someone fired about 15 shots toward a residence in the 700 block of Louisiana Street. Hayes was the driver of the vehicle that witnesses say was seen leaving from the area, the report stated. He was arrested, jailed and held. No bail has been set. No one was injured during the incident. The shooter, identified as Ronel Hayes, is still at large, the report stated. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ronel Hayes is asked to contact the Morgan City Police Department at 985-380-4605 or their local police agency.

—Error Whitehead, 56, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:46 a.m. Monday on a warrant for simple battery of the infirm. Whitehead is accused of battery on an elderly resident of the Morgan City Health Care Facility on Justa Street. The incident occurred on Sept. 12 and was investigated by the state Department of Justice Criminal Division, Baton Rouge. Whitehead was an employee of Morgan City Health Care. She was located at her place of employment and arrested. She was taken to jail and held with bail set at $5,000.

—Michael Smith, 29, of Leboeuf Street in New Orleans, was arrested at 5:19 p.m. Monday and charged with warrants for theft over $500, two counts of bank fraud, and two counts of monetary instrument abuse. Morgan City police detectives were investigating a complaint of counterfeit checks being cashed on a local business account that occurred in June. During the investigation, they learned that Smith had printed counterfeit checks for Joe’s Boots and Work Clothes made payable to him in the amounts of $1,449.27 and $1,268.12, the report stated. When the account owner checked his bank statement, he discovered that he had never made a payment to Smith for any type of work, the report stated. Further investigation indicated that the check numbers on the fraudulent checks had matched the check numbers on the authentic checks. The authentic checks had already been used in March. Smith was taken to jail and held with no bail set.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Nancy Diaz, 25, of East La. 663 in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:48 a.m. Monday on a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy was told that Diaz was at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City. Diaz was taken to the parish jail and held. She was released on a $600 bail.

—Clayton Tardy Jr., 50, of Jolivet Street in Baldwin, was arrested at 1:42 p.m. Monday on a warrant for probation violation. A deputy located Tardy at his residence on the warrant. Tardy was taken to the parish jail and held. His bail is set at $5,000.

—Wendell J. Lancon, 51, of North Richelieu Circle in New Iberia, was arrested at 4:41 p.m. Monday on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, probation violation, and issuing worthless checks. A deputy responding to a complaint of a crash on U.S. 90 near Shady Side came into contact with Lancon. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Lancon was wanted on the warrants. He was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.

—Shawna M. Hebert, 18, of Irish Bend Road in Franklin, was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Monday for telephone harassment. A deputy investigating the complaint learned that Hebert refused to stop sending text messages to the victim after being asked multiple times, via text, to stop, the report stated. Hebert was released on a summons to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2013.

—Krystal L. Meranta, 23, of Clarke Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:03 p.m. Monday on U.S. 90 at La. 317 in Centerville, on a warrant for the Morgan City Police Department for probation violation.

—Destiny Dinger, 24, of Franklin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:52 p.m. Monday on U.S. 90 at La. 317 for possession of a legend drug (Promethazine) without a prescription and possession of a CDS in the presence of a minor.

A deputy responding to a complaint of a reckless driver observed a vehicle cross the fog line multiple times and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Meranta, and the passenger, identified as Dinger. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Meranta was wanted on a warrant. After receiving consent to search the vehicle the deputy located a prescription bottle containing Promethazine pills in Dinger’s purse, the report stated. Meranta was taken to Morgan City Police Department on the warrant. Dinger was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.

—Teddi-Christina Pickett, 26, of Tite Street in Houston, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. Monday on Duke Street in Morgan City, for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule III (Vicodin), possession of legend drug (Ibuprofen), possession of a CDS in the presence of a juvenile, and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division detectives patrolling the Morgan City area observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal at an intersection and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, identified as Pickett, detectives were granted consent to search the vehicle and her purse, the report stated. During the search, detectives located bags of cocaine, more than $1,500 in cash and Ibuprofen and Vicodin pills, the report stated. The cocaine has an estimated street value of about $1,000. During the traffic stop detectives also observed a small child in the back seat of the vehicle. Pickett was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:

—Brandon Gaudet, 22, of Parro Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 10:29 p.m. Monday on charges of driving under suspension and no license plate light. Gaudet was taken to jail and held. He was released on bail.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
