St. Mary Outreach was one of two food banks to receive a $3,000 donation from North American Salt Company's Cote Blanche mine, which contributed $1 for each ton its underground crews mined Friday. With miners 1,500 feet underground, Cote Blanche salt mine produces rock salt and ships it up the Mississippi River to be used for highway de-icing in 18 states throughout the winter. “Support from the miners at Cote Blanche mine and North American Salt Company at Christmas-time is a perfect example of the community in action and the spirit of giving,” St. Mary Outreach Director Kay Raymond said. “With the down economy, the needs seem endless. We are very grateful.” From left are miners representative Keith LeBlanc, Raymond and Mine Manager Gord Bull.
