Johnson’s three-pointer propels Franklin Hornets

Jamal Johnson’s mid-court buzzer-beater enabled the Franklin Hornets to posted a thrilling 55-52 victory over the Jeanerette Tigers Friday at the FSHS Gym.

Johnson, who led the Hornets in scoring with 21 points, pumped in a long-range three-pointer with 1.8 seconds remaining on the clock, lifting the Hornets to the heart-clutching 55-52 victory.

Franklin opened the scoring with a 13-6 run before holding a 27-18 halftime cushion, Jeanerette trimmed Franklin’s lead to 41-34 at the end of the third quarter. Johnson’s game-winning trey gave the Hornets the 55-52 victory as time expired in the fourth quarter.

Johnson led the Hornets with 21 points on seven deuces, one trey and 4 of 6 free throws.

Brennan Robinson finished with 11 points on four field goals and 3 of 10 free throws. Jarion Brown chipped in 10 points with three field goals and 4 of 8 free throws.

Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were: DeAndre Charles, 7; Tarence Clark, 3, and D’Marcus Bowie, 3.

Franklin (7-11, 1-1) will play host to the Kaplan Pirates in District 9-3A action Tuesday at the FSHS Gym.
