Johnson makes 8-4A's top squad

Morgan City High School placed five players on the District 8-4A boys’ All-District squad, including a first team selection.

Jalen Johnson was Morgan City’s first team selection. He finished the year with averages of 17 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game, 4.2 assists per game and 2.3 steals per game.

MCHS coach Jeremy Whittington said Johnson, who broke his ankle during football season, hadn’t truly recovered until the squad began district play this year.

Morgan City also had four honorable mention selections, Derrick Walker, Eric Walker, Jaylen Jones and Ryan Veillion.

Vandebilt Catholic’s Lionheart Leslie was chosen as the district’s most valuable player after averaging 19.75 ppg.

He was joined on the first team by Ellender’s Houston Chatman and Gibby Talbot, and Vandebilt’s Elijah McGuire.

The District 8-4A Coach of the Year was Vandebilt’s Henry Washington.

On the second team were Assumption’s Kaven Bernard, Vandebilt’s Seth Ward and Joseph Cantrell, Ellender’s Cameron Parfait and South Terrebonne’s Dalvin Richardson.

Other honorable mention selections include Ellender’s Jared Turner, Jaylan Coleman, Chaz Williams and Centrell Allridge; Assumption’s Kenyatta Charles and Malik Mills; South Terrebonne’s Dustin Johnson, Andrew Poindexter and Chandler Arceneaux; and Vandebilt’s Tanner Whatley, Bailey Pere and Aaron Smith.
