NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Thomas Richard Texada Sr., the former Kathern “Katie” Varnado, 83, at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Bullock officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Pineville, at 3 p.m.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Saturday until service time at Evangeline Funeral Home.
A native of Bogalusa and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Texada passed away at 11:03 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Texada was a graduate of Louisiana College with a degree in education. She taught fifth and sixth grades for many years and was the owner along with her husband of Texada’s Jewelry and Gifts. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia K. “Kay Bugg” Texada of New Iberia; one son, Thomas Richard Texada Jr. and wife, Joy, of New Iberia; four grandchildren, Christopher Scott Texada, John Michael Texada, Daniel Texada and Jeffery Texada; one great grandchild, Gabriella Brie Texada; one sister, Ouida Morel of Baton Rouge; and one niece, Cherie Morel of Cade.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Richard Texada Sr.; and her parents, Morris L. and Nell Virginia Jordan Varnado.
Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
