The event benefits Adullam Houshold of Faith in Patterson as well as area high schools in their purchase of automatic external defibrillators for use in emergency situations.
Co-chairperson Selena Shannon said the idea was borne from attending trivia nights in other areas.
“We attended other trivia nights in other parishes. It’s just a fun event and a good way for people to get together and raise money for a good cause,” Shannon said.
Each team of up to six members is required to come up with an official team name. A company can sponsor more than one team, but each team must have a separate name and must pay an additional fee of $150. Every contestant must be over age 18.
So far, Shannon said, more than 50 teams have registered, “and we can hold a lot more,” she said.
For the competition, there will be 10 categories with 10 questions per category. While the categories are secret, Shannon said they will mimic Trivial Pursuit categories. Final team answers will be submitted at the end of each category on official score sheets and must match judges’ score sheets. Cell phones must be off and put away during the trivia competition, and spectators will be required to remain in the balcony once the competition begins.
Cash prizes will be offered to first, second and third place teams.
Doors will open at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. Registration, cocktails and concessions will be served between 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Trivia will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
The deadline to enter is Feb. 15.
