Barbier leads CCHS' contingent on 8-1A team

Staff Report The Central Catholic baseball team was represented in District 8-1A with 10 players making the list either as first- or second-team selections or as an honorable mention choice. The group was headlined by junior pitcher Bryson Barbier, who in addition to being chosen as first-team pitcher, also was selected as the district’s Pitcher of the Year. Barbier finished the district season with a 5-0 mark and a 1.78 ERA as well as 39 strikeouts. At the plate, he batted .444 with three doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs. Central Catholic coach Tyler Jensen was named the district’s Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to an 8-0 district mark. Hanson’s Drake Businelle was named the district’s Most Valuable Player. Joining Barbier as first-team selections for Central Catholic were utility selection freshman Samuel Guarisco, first basemen Barron Courtney and outfielder Josh Singleton. Guarisco finished the district season with a .722 average and had five doubles and nine RBIs. On the mound, he was 1-0. Courtney batted .524 with four doubles, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored, while Singleton stole eight bases and scored 12 runs. Central Catholic junior Nick Case was a second-team selection as he batted .353 with six RBIs. The Eagles’ honorable mention choices were seniors Dominick Guarisco, Luke Landry, Justin Arceneaux and Austin Autin as well as junior Tyler Hoffpauir.
