Lady Patriots top Lady Hornets

LEROY — Chelsea Sonnier scored a game-high 20 points, leading the North Vermilion Lady Patriots to a 77-35 District 9-3A victory over the Franklin Lady Hornets here Tuesday at the NVHS Gym.

North Vermilion outpointed the Franklin Lady Hornets from the top quarter, securing a 20-7 lead. North Vermilion widened the gap to 43-14 at the half. The Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Hornets by a 34-21 margin in the second half to gain the 77-35 win.

J’Ashayla Bowers tossed in 17 points while Fabian Small added 10 to lead the Lady Hornets. Bowers bagged one trey, three deuces and 8 of 14 free throws. Small canned six charity shots along with a pair of floor baskets. Other top scorers for the Lady Hornets were: Dalyn Jones, 5; Karson Grogan, 3; Ke’Alyla Jennings, 2; Wynesha Jenkins, 2 and Anjhae Jolivett, 1.

Franklin, which slipped to 0-2 in league play, will travel to face the Jeanerette Lady Tigers in non-district action on Friday.
