If nothing changes, Lafayette Parish School Board members will be in the area Dec. 1 to inspect Dr. Donald Aguillard’s work in the St. Mary Parish educational system.

During a Thursday board meeting, members also decided the timeframe for naming a new superintendent, changing the date from Dec. 7, as previously thought, to Dec. 14, according to Lafayette school system Marketing Director Angie Simoneaux.

Currently, the plan is for select board members to conduct the community visits starting with two days in Mississippi, where they will research Walter Gonsoulin in Starkville on Nov. 28 and Pat Cooper in McComb Nov. 29, before returning to Louisiana.

Cooper served as the superintendent of schools in McComb from 1997 to 2007. He currently runs his own business as CEO and president of Early Childhood and Family Learning Foundation. Board members will revisit Cooper in New Orleans Dec. 2.

The board will then hold a public forum Dec. 13 and conduct a second round of interviews Dec. 14 before voting later that evening.
