This detailed Venetian mirror is just one of many items from the estate of the late Dr. Mildred Christian that will be up for bids Sunday during St. Mary Landmarks Society’s annual brunch and auction. This year’s event is being held on the grounds of Shadowlawn, 906 Main St. that Christian bequeathed to the society. Displaying the mirror is event co-chair Pam Heffner.
The brunch will be catered by the Forest Restaurant.
During the auction at Shadowlawn Plantation on Main Street famous people in Louisiana’s history — Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, Sister Marie Madeleine Hachard, Gen. Andrew Jackson, Andres Almonester y Roxas, Jean Lafitte, and Baroness Micaela Almonester de Pontalba — will be represented by actors clothed in period dress, said event co-chair Pam Hefner. Reenactors include Melvin Coleman, Pam Adams, Johnny Zea, Dutch Vandenaardweg, Tom Kramer and Mary Ann Fournier.
A model of the sword used by Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans also will be on display, Heffner said.
Shadowlawn and everything inside was recently donated to St. Mary Landmarks by the late Dr. Mildred Christian. Some of the furnishings and other items from inside will be part of the auction that will include about 25 items in the silent auction and 20 others in the live auction.
Event chair is Maurye Aycock McCarthy and co-chairs are Pam Daniels, Felisa Daniels, Craig Landry and Heffner. Call 828-2092 for more information.
