Mardi Gras celebrations have already started in some cities. Celebrators are bustling around trying to get their parade schedules straight, when or if to "run" Mardi Gras, and what to wear this year. Most of the Mardi Gras runs require traditional Mardi Gras attire. To obtain this look stress free, you can pick up a kid or adult Mardi Gras costume by calling Leona at 337-468-3706. If you have the time to make your own costume, you can use old nursing attire and add rows of frills and bells. Although a sewn costume will last you much longer verses a glued costume, if finances are limited, a glued costume will do.

Why go sewn? Professionally sewn costumes may cost you a bit more but the time you save and the costume longevity is well worth it. If you purchase your own to create at home, you will need several items:

  1. Scrubs
  2. Material of your choice (length depending on costume-width approx. 3 inches)
  3. Scissors
  4. Glue
  5. Glue Gun
  6. Cardboard

This is for a costume without bells.

Put your cardboard inside the scrub, this will stop the top of the shirt/bottom, from sticking to each other.

Take the material of your choice and measure across the back of your costume to decide how long your fringe will need to be. Next, cut the material L X 3(W). You can fringe your material before or after. I would recommend before, however, either way will do. To fringe cut your strips of material vertically, leaving about 1/2 of the material to glue to the scrub.

Depending on how much fringe you want on your scrubs depends on how much material you want. Glue your strips of material horizontally at a width apart that you desire. Repeat this until you have the effect you want.

If you don't have time to create your own costume, call Leona at 337-468-3706 for a pre-made sewn costume of the highest quality.

Happy Mardi Gras!
