SHREVEPORT – The jury that convicted a man Tuesday of killing a Shreveport policeman will decide the gunman’s fate.

Christopher Cope was convicted after about an hour’s deliberation of shooting Sgt. Timothy Prunty in October 2010.

Cope was found guilty of shooting Prunty, a 19-year veteran of the department, while the officer visited with clerk outside of a Circle K in southwest Shreveport just after 3:30 a.m.

Prunty was hit by five of the 14 bullets Cope fired from his .40 caliber handgun in the direction of him and the clerk.
